How Financial Aid Works
Financial Aid can help you pay for your studies at any approved college. It is provided by various agencies, including the federal and state governments, private organizations, and the college itself. Financial Aid is meant to supplement your family's ability to pay for college costs: tuition/fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and other education expenses. Financial aid eligibility is based on financial need or some other standard of eligibility.

Financial aid is any assistance with paying for tuition, books and supplies, and falls into one of two categories:
  1. The kind you don’t have to pay back (grants and scholarships), and
  2. The kind you must pay back (student loans)
Grants and Scholarships
Also called gift aid, grants do not have to be repaid. Grant aid comes from federal and state governments and from individual colleges. Scholarships are usually awarded based on merit.

Loans
Most financial aid comes in the form of loans, aid that must be repaid. Most loans that are awarded based on financial need are low-interest loans sponsored by the federal government.

Question Does your college accept financial aid?
Answer Yes, we accept financial aid, including grants and student loans.

Question Who should apply for financial aid?
Answer Not all federal aid is based on need. Therefore, we encourage all students to file the FAFSA regardless of family income.

Question How long does the application process take?
Answer The application process takes 1-3 business days if you apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Question How do I apply for financial aid?
Answer Apply online! It is the fastest, most accurate way. Start by getting your pin and then complete the FAFSA, which will help to determine your need for financial aid.

Question What is Bryant & Stratton’s federal school code to be entered on my FAFSA?
Answer Bryant & Stratton s federal code is (all numbers) 002678.

Question How do I know how much aid I will receive?
Answer You will receive a financial aid award letter from the college within a few days after you submit a FAFSA and apply to the college. The letter outlines your costs and financial aid eligibility. You will receive directions on accepting the awards as well.

Question How do I apply for NYS TAP?
Answer Once you complete a FAFSA, New York state residents will be linked directly to TAP on the WEB to complete an ETA (Express TAP application) online. The information is then verified. The TAP award is subject to change if there is a discrepancy in income, cost of attendance, family members in college, etc.

Question Do you accept the GI bill?
Answer Yes, GI benefits are accepted for those who qualify.

Question Do you accept tuition reimbursement?
Answer If you are eligible for tuition reimbursement from your employer, you are allowed to complete and sign an employer payment promissory note to defer payment until 30 days after the term ends. You are ultimately responsible for payment of full charges.

Question Am I eligible for a student loan? How do I apply?
Answer The college determines your student loan eligibility and forwards you information on accepting the student loans, completing an application online, and completing required entrance counseling for them.

Question I am planning on transferring form another school at the end of the semester. Can my loan funds go directly to your school?
Answer Loan funds already approved for attendance at a particular college can only be used by that school. Any remaining disbursements must be cancelled and the new school must certify new loans for any remaining loan eligibility for the academic year.

Question Are Alternative loans available? If so, how do I apply for one?
Answer You can apply for an Alternative Loan at any lender of choice. These are credit-based loans. Once approved, the Financial Aid Office will certify the amount of the loan that the borrower is eligible for and subsequently transmit this information back to the lender for a final guarantee.

Question Are there any scholarships available?
Answer Bryant & Stratton offers an Adult Learner scholarship and also matches scholarships awarded from professional organizations. Once you apply to the college and submit a FAFSA you will automatically be considered for all scholarships available at Bryant & Stratton.

Question Are there payment options available to pay my college costs not covered by grants, scholarships, or loans?
Answer Any balance remaining after grants, scholarships, and loans can be paid with check, Master Charge, Visa, and Discover. The college also offers an interest free monthly E-payment plan which divides the semesters balance into three manageable monthly payments.
