Answer Yes, we accept financial aid, including grants and student loans.
 
Question Who should apply for financial aid?
Answer Not all federal aid is based on need. Therefore, we encourage all students to file the FAFSA regardless of family income.
 
Question How long does the application process take?
Answer The application process takes 1-3 business days if you apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
 
Question What is a FAFSA?
Answer FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The Department of Education offers both grants and loans to students attending college, but the only way to be eligible for these funds is to fill out the FAFSA.
 
Question How do I apply for financial aid?
Answer Apply online! It is the fastest, most accurate way. Start by getting your pin and then complete the FAFSA, which will help to determine your need for financial aid.
 
Question How do I receive a pin for my financial aid?
Answer Pin numbers are obtained by visiting http://www.pin.ed.gov. Pin numbers are your way of electronically signing your financial aid applications and forms.
 
Question What is Bryant & Stratton’s federal school code to be entered on my FAFSA?
Answer Bryant & Stratton s federal code is (all numbers) 002678.
 
Question How do I change the school code on my FAFSA to yours?
Answer Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and select “make corrections to my processed FAFSA.” Scroll down to the next available Blank College and check the box and follow the prompts to add our school Code, 002678. Click on “Search” and Bryant & Stratton College’s information will appear in blue, click on it. This should automatically take you to the next screen, where you will follow the prompts to Step Six., making sure our school is now listed. Hit “Next” and submit your changes.
 
Question I lost my tax forms, can I request them from somewhere?
Answer If you or your parents have misplaced your tax returns you may request a tax transcript (a 1722-form) be sent. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. This transcript will provide all the information you would need from your original tax return to complete your FAFSA.
 
Question I didn’t file taxes last year or my parents didn’t, what do I do?
Answer The first thing you will want to look at if taxes were not filed are worksheets A and B on your FAFSA form. Many people who do not work still receive monetary assistance such as social services benefits, social security benefits, or child support. These worksheets will help you calculate this information for your FAFSA.
 
Question I’ve been selected for verification, what does that mean?
Answer Verification is a process in which you must provide documentation to the Financial Aid office to confirm the information on your FAFSA is correct. Some students are selected randomly and some are selected due to the answers provided. If you are selected for verification you must provide a completed verification worksheet, copies of signed tax forms, and possible other documentation to the financial aid office. Your financial aid awards are subject to change upon verification so it is important you get this in as soon as possible.
 
Question Who can I contact if I have any questions or problems?
Answer For questions regarding problems or difficulties using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web, or specific questions about the FAFSA, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) For any other questions, call the Financial Services department at 1-800-836-5627 ext 221 or ext 222.
 
Question How do I know how much aid I will receive?
Answer You will receive a financial aid award letter from the college within a few days after you submit a FAFSA and apply to the college. The letter outlines your costs and financial aid eligibility. You will receive directions on accepting the awards as well.
 
Question Do you accept state grants? If so, which one?
Answer New York state residents may be eligible to receive the New York state grant, TAP (Tuition Assistance Program), or APTS (Aid for Part Time Study.)
 
Question How do I apply for NYS TAP?
Answer Once you complete a FAFSA, New York state residents will be linked directly to TAP on the WEB to complete an ETA (Express TAP application) online. The information is then verified. The TAP award is subject to change if there is a discrepancy in income, cost of attendance, family members in college, etc.
 
Question Do you accept the GI bill?
Answer Yes, GI benefits are accepted for those who qualify.
 
Question How do I apply for Veterans Educational Benefits?
Answer You can apply for Veterans Educational Benefits online. When you have completed the online application you will be given the mailing address of your regional processing office. Take note of this address as you will need to sign the form and mail it to this center for processing.
 
Question What form do I need to fill out to apply for the GI Bill?
Answer If you have never applied for GI Bill Benefits you will need to complete a VA Form 22-1990 (Application for Education Benefits.) For students that have previously received veterans benefits at another college a VA Form 22-1995 (Application for Change of Program or Place of Training).
 
Question What documents does the school need to certify my enrollment?
Answer In order for the Veterans Certifying official to certify your enrollment they must have a copy of your DD214 and a Certificate of Eligibility. You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs once you apply for benefits.
 
Question How do I receive my veteran’s educational benefits?
Answer Once the Veteran’s certifying official has certified your enrollment in school you will also need to verify monthly that you are enrolled in school. You can verify this either online or by calling 1-888-GI-BILL1. Your benefits will be either mailed to you by check or directly deposited in a checking or savings account.
 
Question Do you accept tuition reimbursement?
Answer If you are eligible for tuition reimbursement from your employer, you are allowed to complete and sign an employer payment promissory note to defer payment until 30 days after the term ends. You are ultimately responsible for payment of full charges.
 
Question Am I eligible for a student loan? How do I apply?
Answer The college determines your student loan eligibility and forwards you information on accepting the student loans, completing an application online, and completing required entrance counseling for them.
 
Question I am planning on transferring form another school at the end of the semester. Can my loan funds go directly to your school?
Answer Loan funds already approved for attendance at a particular college can only be used by that school. Any remaining disbursements must be cancelled and the new school must certify new loans for any remaining loan eligibility for the academic year.
 
Question How does my parent apply for a Parent Plus loan?
Answer Your parent can apply for a Parent Plus loan by logging onto: HESC, click on Applying for Financial Aid on the top menu bar, select Loans, Complete the E-MPN, scroll down to Parents only section. Your parent will need to create a new user ID and pin to complete this. Choose Bryant and Stratton Southtowns Campus, code 00267802. Choose a lender. You are always free to choose among the dozens of lenders who provide student loans. Be aware that some smaller banks and credit unions do not participate in the electronic processes used at Bryant & Stratton Online. Be sure the lender you choose is participating by consulting our Preferred Lender list. There is an immediate credit decision so your parent can continue to finish the application process.
 
Question Are Alternative loans available? If so, how do I apply for one?
Answer You can apply for an Alternative Loan at any lender of choice. These are credit-based loans. Once approved, the Financial Aid Office will certify the amount of the loan that the borrower is eligible for and subsequently transmit this information back to the lender for a final guarantee.
 
Question Are there any scholarships available?
Answer Bryant & Stratton offers an Adult Learner scholarship and also matches scholarships awarded from professional organizations. Once you apply to the college and submit a FAFSA you will automatically be considered for all scholarships available at Bryant & Stratton.
 
Question Are there payment options available to pay my college costs not covered by grants, scholarships, or loans?
Answer Any balance remaining after grants, scholarships, and loans can be paid with check, Master Charge, Visa, and Discover. The college also offers an interest free monthly E-payment plan which divides the semesters balance into three manageable monthly payments.
 
Question How can I be declared an independent student?
Answer For financial aid, a student cannot be considered independent unless they meet at least one of the criteria the federal government has established. For the 2007-2008 aid year, students must be born prior to January 1st, 1984, a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, enrolled in a graduate of professional program, married, a ward of the court, or have legal dependents.
 
Question What is the difference between Full time and Part time?
Answer Full-time requires 4 classes to be taken over the course of the 15 week semester.
Part-time requires 2 classes to be taken over the course of the 15 week semester.
 
Question Costs
Answer Bryant & Stratton is a private college and our costs are comparable to other private colleges. Currently our tuition is $436 per credit hour. Text books are also required for the classes and do vary in cost.
 
Question Are there any other fees?
Answer There is a $25 registration fee which helps defray the cost of personal evaluation, academic credentials review, and initial set-up of your student file. In their last term, graduates are charged a $100 administrative fee which incorporates the cost of caps and gowns for graduation.
